Surfside Aquasports

I quickly realized within minutes of my tour that Surfside Aquatours kayak trip was not just a fun activity. To my surprise, being that I am from the Cayman Islands, that there was a lot that I didn't know about the beautiful mangrove habitat and ocean life that we so often take for granted when living on an island.

We started our journey up the shoreline of South Sound, the water is shallow at about one to two feet as it varies as you go along. It was very different this time incomparison to being on a motor boat in not as shallow of water. We were gliding along just skimming the top of the turtle grass below us. Turtle grass, as named because of it being food for turtles, is one of several sea grasses found in the Cayman Islands and is home to many different forms of sea life also.

Star fish, snails, juvenile fish such as needle fish, juvenile lobsters, crabs, shrimp and many others live among the seagrass beds
