Gulf Fritillary Butterfly

The Gulf Fritillary is one of the three representatives of the Long-winged Butterflies (Heliconiidae) of the Cayman Islands. It is a common buterfly and can be almost anywhere in the islands except in the mangroves and woodland.

The Gulf Fritillary is a tolerant butterfly and can take on some damage by a predator. They can be seen often flying slowly or gliding along and may aggregate in order to visually display to a greater degree their bright warning coloration to a would-be predator.
